2011 ended with me shooting the JM
Promotions Christmas gig at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster featuring the
following bands. James Holder, The Samples, Black Shoes, Lokal Minds and Karl
Scott. To see my photos please visit the following website. http://www.flickr.com/photos/michaelbarnett23/sets/72157628554764323/
Well given the start to 2012 that I have
had, this could be my year. I have managed to invoice a company for some work I
did in 2010 now that my business is now legally registered. This means I am
able to purchase more materials to display my work.
To this end I had a meeting with the
landlord of The Sun on York Road in Doncaster (http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/lifestyle/pub_of_the_week_the_sun_inn_1_4079561)
in early January who will allow me to display my work for sale in the pub with
the proviso that I don’t mark any of the walls. Following many hours of
research I think I have found the right product for this. A 3M Command Adhesive
picture hanger. Now I just need to order some canvasses and to that end I have
managed to source a new canvas supplier (http://www.procanvas.co.uk/).
The landlord has stated he will even allow me to have exhibitions and auctions
if I want. To start with I’m thinking of displaying three of my canvasses with
a view to selling them. Keep an eye on The Sun’s walls if you’re interested in
owning some of my work.
The best thing about the start of 2012 for
me is the fact one of my photos was voted the 2011 photo of the year by Canoe
England. The photo in question of Richard Hounslow is one I am especially proud
of. I think I have captured the dedication required to be an elite kayaker. I
won a camera for my efforts. This accolade proves that my dream of being a Sports
photographer is not just a pipe dream. I was honestly shocked to receive the
award. Thanks to Andy Maddock of BCU for allowing me to go to Senior Selections
at Lee Valley, which is where, I took this photo. Who knows I may get invited
back this year. Finger’s crossed. To see the photo in question, please see
below.
I have also managed to source some flyers,
which I plan on distributing around my local area. 5000 A6 flyers for £53. What
a bargain. Thanks a lot to www.flyerzone.co.uk
for you help.
With this sort of start to 2012 I am really
looking forward to what the next 11 and a half months have to offer. Who knows
what could happen.
Cheers for reading,
Michael
